This week, science came to life for 5th grade exploration students at MIS! PC-TAG donated sheep brains and essential supplies, allowing students to participate in a hands-on dissection experience that deepened their understanding of biology and anatomy.
Under the guidance of their teacher, Ms. Taliaferro and parent volunteers, TAG exploration students carefully examined the brains, identifying key structures like the cerebrum, cerebellum, and brainstem. This hands-on experience not only reinforced textbook lessons but also sparked curiosity and excitement about science and medicine!

PC-TAG students eagerly embarked on a journey through history at the George W. Bush Presidential Library and Museum. Led by a knowledgeable docent, they explored exhibits showcasing pivotal moments from President Bush's time in office including 9/11 and Hurricane Katrina. This helped them gain a deeper understanding of events during that time that define our our nation.
The visit was particularly meaningful on Inauguration Day, a time of reflection on presidential leadership. As the students left the library, they carried with them not only the knowledge of the past but also a renewed appreciation for the role of leadership in shaping our country's future. Boone TAG students recently had an unforgettable educational experience at iFLY, an indoor skydiving center. This special field trip was made possible by a generous grant from PC-TAG, showcasing the power of community support for innovative learning.
The trip wasn't just about fun- it was a hands-on STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math) adventure. Students explored concepts like physics, aerodynamics, and motion through engaging demonstrations and interactive lessons. The highlight? Stepping into the vertical wind tunnel to experience the forces of flight firsthand! The spirit of community and celebration came alive as parents and teachers gathered at Smoky Rose for a festive holiday party! Teachers and parents expressed enjoyed the chance to unwind and engage together in a festive environment and feel a mutual sense of support. Here's to a season filled with gratitude, joy, and community- and many more gatherings like this in the future!
Parents of our bright 5th graders gathered for an exciting information session about our school's TAG program. This event provided a deep dive into the enriching world of the TAG track during the middle school years. Conducted by HPISD TAG Coordinator, Ericca Vandagriff and MIS Exploration's teacher, Shannon Taliaferro, parents were able to learn and ask questions about the MIS/HPMS math tracks and the transition from Explorations to TAG language arts, social studies and sciences.
Our teachers are nothing short of superheroes! Day in and day out, they go above and beyond to inspire, educate, and guide our students. PC-TAG provided breakfast to the HPHS staff- a little fuel to help kick-start their day. This breakfast was just one way to show our gratitude for everything they do!
