We are thrilled to announce that Kevin Finn has been named the PC-TAG Teacher of the Year! Mr. Finn is a dedicated teacher at Highland Park High School, and we are honored to recognize him for his outstanding contributions! Mr. Finn's passion for teaching is evident in his commitment to creating engaging and challenging lessons that encourage students to think critically and creatively. He is always willing to go above and beyond to ensure that his students have the resources and support they need to succeed. We want to extend our sincerest congratulations to Mr. Finn for being named the PC-TAG Teacher of the Year. We are grateful for his dedication, hard work, and unwavering commitment to our students. Congratulations, Mr. Finn! PC-TAG is honored to announce this year's PC-TAG Teacher of the Year for HPISD. The annual PC-TAG Teacher of the Year Award honors and rewards an educator who encourages and inspires a love of learning in their students. Teachers are nominated by parents and students in the spring each year. Unlike most years, this year, the board made an exception and chose two deserving recipients. Dr. Christopher Miller, HPMS Principal and Amy Kovac, PC-TAG President surprised these two deserving individuals with their awards. Congratulations to Claire Zaika-Taglioli, TAG Algebra and TAG Geometry teacher and Shannon Taliaferro, 7th Grade TAG Language Arts teacher for receiving this prestigious honor.
PC-TAG was thrilled to present Yvonne Janik with the Teacher of the Year Award after receiving several nominations by students and parents.
"She is dedicated to teaching and preparing her students and determined to educate students for their edification.” "Ms. Janik makes a huge impact on the kids she teaches. She is a teacher with high demands from her students (meaning they come away having learned so much from her). However, she balances that with the ability to show students she cares and that she is truly interested in them. I can’t say enough good things about Ms Janik!” "She welcomes us to class every day with a passion for teaching. I feel that she deserves this award because of how dedicated she is to her students' educations.” "Because she is everything a teacher should be and more. Nominees should exhibit some or all of the following qualities: * A concern for students and the ability to inspire them * The ability and willingness to work cooperatively with colleagues * A drive to initiate activities that improve instruction for students * The desire to stay informed about current educational theories and practices * An ability and willingness to make meaningful contributions to education It is helpful to include specific examples of any innovations or methodologies that make this nominee stand out among their peers. Submissions due on or before Friday, April 28, 2017. Nominating Form Nominating a teacher is a great way to honor and celebrate any teachers who are special to you. Anyone may submit a recommendation including students, parents, and colleagues. All teachers are eligible for nomination. It is not restricted to TAG teachers. Questions? Contact Amy Peck Mrs. Mobh teaches fourth grade at Armstrong Elementary and was selected from teacher candidates across Highland Park's campuses. A fifteen year teaching veteran, she was selected because she inspires and challenges her students. Ashraf Mobh was nominated by parents who praised her dedication, creativity and inspirational teaching style. Many of whom described how Mobh has introduced global perspectives through literature, participating in Skypes and interviewing outside speakers.
PC-TAG's Julie Young and Amy Peck presented the award to Ashraf Mobh on May 18 in front of a classroom of her cheering students and Principal Skip Moran. Through its annual Teacher of the Year award, PC-TAG seeks to recognize those HPISD teachers who through their instruction significantly impact the lives of their students by embracing and recognizing the educational, social and emotional needs of gifted children. Congratulations to MIS Math Teacher Sarah Beth Haigler, the 2015 recipient of the PCTAG Teacher of the Year Award. Ms. Haigler was nominated by students, parents and teachers who praised her encouraging and inspiring manner, as well as the significant extra time and energy she spends coaching the MIS/HPMS Math Team. Ms. Haigler received her award on May 14 before a classroom of cheering students and Dr. Hitzelberger. Through its Teacher of the Year nomination process, PC-TAG received numerous nominations for the entire English department at Highland Park High School. Although the English department was not selected as "Teacher of the Year," it did receive a special presentation from the PC-TAG Teacher of the Year selection committee to acknowledge this group's work and dedication throughout this past year. Congratulations to HPMS Texas History Teacher Brianna Riddell, the 2014 recipient of the PCTAG Teacher of the Year Award. Ms. Riddell was nominated by students and parents who praised her enthusiasm for her subject and her ability to bring Texas History to life in creative ways. Ms. Riddell received her award on May 2 before a classroom of cheering students. PC-TAG has selected Reagan Brumley, Director of Instrumental Music for HPISD, as the 2013 PC-TAG Teacher of the Year. Brumley was selected from teacher candidates across all seven Highland Park ISD (HPISD) campuses. Brumley was presented the award at the Highlander Band Spring Concert and Banquet on May 17 by PC-TAG Chair Sarah Clark. Clark said of Brumley, “Not only has Mr. Brumley achieved amazing results with the band programs, but he has also proven to have another very important quality in an educator- the ability to inspire our kids as individuals to reach for new heights and to be the best that they can be” PC-TAG is honored to present the PC-TAG Teacher of the Year award to Reagan Brumley.
