What better way to spend a school holiday than marching to your own beat! Friday April 2nd these students from the middle school took part in a music workshop where they learned to produce their own music. Did you know that music provides a total brain workout? Research shows that listening to music can reduce anxiety, blood pressure, and pain as well as improve sleep quality, mood, mental alertness, and memory (Hopkins Medicine website).

We love seeing our students having fun and learning in the classroom. Here are some of the grants we've given this year that are benefitting our elementary students. Pictures below are from the pig hearts grant and the Gravitrax grant. Recently we partnered with NuMinds Enrichment to bring a fun workshop to our TAG students. The Cardboard Challenge was a fun way to see how creative our kids can be. We would like to congratulate the winner of the challenge, Gerard Thompson, 3rd grader at University Park Elementary!!! Watch his video below to see his amazing creation... We had such a fun time with Ron White learning quick tips for memorization. He will be back with us in February to do another session and we can't wait! He shared this file with us on how to memorize Spanish verbs. See if you can do it.... Emily Mills did 2 sessions with our students recently to introduce them to art of sketchnoting. The kids had fun showing off their work and in return Emily gave away copies of her book to a few students as way to thank them for sharing during the interactive Zoom event.
Thanks to everyone who "zoomed" with us for our first program of this most unique school year! Lisa Wilson and Ericca Vandagriff presented a helpful overview of TAG services in HPISD, including what students can expect during our current remote learning environment and after in-person school begins next week. A big "thank you" to Lisa and Ericca for their time on Friday, as well as their dedication to and care for our students. Visit pctag.org/programs to view the video and slides, and be on the lookout for details about our upcoming September programs! ![]() Park Cities Talented & Gifted is pleased to recognize Peyton Dooley and Stacy Wang as the 2019-20 PC-TAG Distinguished Scholars!
Ms. Wang and Mr. Dooley were each selected for this merit-based $1,000 award by a committee of high school faculty. Ms. Wang has been in the Highland Park school district since 4th grade at Hyer Elementary School. She will be attending MIT in the fall to study Mathematical Economics. Mr. Dooley has been in the Highland Park school district since 5th grade, when his family moved to Dallas. He will be attending The University of Chicago in the fall to study Biology. Please join us in congratulating these students for their outstanding careers at Highland Park!
Ms. Berry (Bradfield TAG Coordinator), Ms. Myers (UP TAG Coordinator), and Ms. Vandagriff (HPISD TAG Coordinator) attended a master class for the World Peace Game, pictured here with WPG founder and gifted educator, John Hunter. In this hands-on political simulation, students work in country teams to solve political, socio-economic and environmental issues. The game exposes students to critical and creative problem-solving, leadership responsibility, negotiations, philosophical issues, and ambiguity and bias in decision making. PC-TAG is proud to fund this training to enable teachers to bring the World Peace Game to their classrooms.
